Breast Lift
In cases where the breasts have drooped due to pregnancy, age or rapid weight
loss, it becomes necessary to do a lift or mastopexy. Under local
anesthesia with sedation, (general anesthesia is available), incisions are made
around the areola, vertically down the front and, if necessary, in the fold
under the breast. The redundant skin is removed, the breast tissue is
remodeled to a more youthful shape and the areola is left better
proportioned and in a higher position. If more volume is desired, implants
can be inserted at the same time. Usually the patient can go home the
same day wearing a support bra that will help maintain the new shape over
several weeks. The patient should not raise her arms above her head for 3
weeks.
