Patients with small buttocks that may present slight drooping are candidates for this procedure that uses the person’s own body fat and the regenerative properties of the stem cells present in it. Therefore, this is generally done in conjunction with liposuction.

Under regional anesthesia, a mixture of saline solution, local anesthesia and agents to minimize bleeding and discomfort is injected into the areas from which the fat is to be harvested. Through very small incisions, very thin tubes, or cannulas are inserted and the fat is harvested.

The fat is washed and concentrated. It is then injected in many small doses at different levels into the gluteus muscles to augment these areas and attain a fuller, shapelier butt. Generally, the patient can return home the same day.

A supportive garment is fitted and must be worn 3 weeks. It is important to note that although the technique for lipoinjection is continually improving, a certain amount of the injected fat can be reabsorbed necessitating additional applications.
